helldarkangel, her word being 'lobster'. And well... this is weird I tell you. *scratches head* I blame the word. xD; Um. I'm rather insecure about this, I have no idea if this is at least remotely good or just plain stupid. If you read this, tell me your opinion, please. No matter if you like it or not, just tell me. I'd really appreciate that. ^^'
Oh, and if you haven't yet heard about Die's 'I'm a fucking rockstar, bitch' -line then check out the video here. It'll explain the lobster in this. x)
It starts as a little joke between Kyo and Kaoru. To tease Die is such a rare occasion neither of them wants to let it go: for them Die is known as Lobster now. When Die pouts and tries his best to make them stop – it’s starting to get old, he reasons and offers them a puppy-eyed look – they simply don’t pay any attention to him. It’s much more fun to watch the redhead huff at them and seek for sympathy from Shinya and Toshiya – usually the latter just grins at him and tells him that he only gets what he deserves; Shinya then again takes him in his arms and strokes his hair in a soothing manner, assuring him that in time they’ll forget all about it.
And as for Kyo and Kaoru, they just chuckle at Die and exchange a secret glance before continuing with what ever they had been doing before the temptation to tease the other guitarist had gotten the better of them.
For Kyo though, that glance he shares with Kaoru is the main reason he continues the light teasing. To meet the other’s eyes, to feel like there is something special between them, it warms his heart. He likes to think that this little joke they share has made them closer to each other – and maybe it has. They have roomed together most of the tour, letting Toshiya have his way of having a room for himself while the other shared room has been left to Die and Shinya. None of them ever complains though, and Kyo thinks that maybe it has been the best solution for them all. He himself secretly loves the fact that the person he shares a room with is their leader, the person he has slowly grown to have strong feelings for.
Kyo has no clue whether Kaoru has noticed it, nor does he know if his feelings are returned. Quite frankly, he does not even care at the moment. Later he probably will, but right now it is all so new to him, so confusing in a way yet still so right, and he does not want to break the charm over the situation. He is content enough to have Kaoru by his side as a friend – after all, he is able to talk to him and to admire him rather closely. The only thing he misses, apart from being able to tell the other how he truly feels, is touching him. He knows that from time to time they do touch each other, even hug each other – none of the five of them feels awkward with touching at all – but sometimes he wishes he could just go to Kaoru and kiss him.
Sometimes, though, he is glad that he can’t. He doesn’t really know why as the mere idea of Kaoru kissing him back and thus wordlessly telling him he is not the only one with those kinds of feelings is enticing. All he knows is that he is not ready to find out the truth so soon.
When they return to Japan Kyo has his moments when he fears that the closeness between him and Kaoru fades as they return to their normal routines with once again living alone and continuing their normal lives with Dir en grey. None of those moments proves to turn into reality though. They still share their little joke and spend time together while Toshiya spends all his free time with his new girlfriend and Die and Shinya do the same they always do.
What surprises Kyo the most is that when in the past they have mostly concentrated on the band and its future, he and Kaoru rarely mention it anymore – or so it feels like to Kyo. The surprise is a pleasant one though; he really enjoys spending time with the guitarist.
And one day when Kaoru reveals him that when he was younger he had fallen in love with the boy next door – his best friend, he ads and sighs, a melancholy smile on his lips – Kyo feels touched. He knows that Kaoru hasn’t told anyone else about it and he is honoured that that the other trusts him enough to share it with him. Kaoru is hardly as secretive as Shinya but it does not mean that he never has any secrets from his band mates.
Later, when the day has already turned into night Kyo lay in his bed wide awake, wondering if there was something more in it than Kaoru just wanting to share his secret with him. A thought crosses his mind: maybe it was Kaoru’s way of telling him he’d be okay with Kyo’s feelings towards him. Biting his lower lip, Kyo thinks on: the others have known from the beginning that he likes both genders. Hell, he has even been in a short relationship with Toshiya around the time the bassist moved in with him. It was never anything serious though, after a couple of months they agreed to continue as friends and after that Kyo has had his share of lovers, both male and female. None of those relationships lasted long though and the last couple of years he hasn’t been seeing anyone. Kaoru hasn’t either, he realizes suddenly.
In the morning Kyo can only laugh at his nightly thoughts – but he can’t help but to wonder if there would be a chance, no matter how tiny, that there could be some truth in them. He knows he can’t forget all about his suspicions that easily but he also knows how to live with them. Still, when he notices the way Kaoru has started to look at him, as if examining him, he wonders if the time has finally come when he just can’t act unaffected anymore.
The unexpected yet silently hoped for happens when he least expects it. Kyo does not know which one of them is the one to initiate things; for all he knows it can be Die who has gotten enough of being called Lobster and trying to give them something else to think about, or just as well he himself, or Kaoru. But when he finds himself sitting next to their leader, staring intently at his eyes and finding Kaoru’s gaze steadily meeting his own it feels only natural to lean closer to him and cover his lips with his own ones.
Kaoru’s hand squeezing his and the soft smile on his lips once the kiss is broken though are enough to tell Kyo that what ever he feels, the feeling is mutual.
