Synopsis: The drummer couldn’t say what it was that annoyed him so much about Die, apart from his constant teasing, of course, neither what was the reason he felt himself blushing under his eyes, but he didn’t care. He did not want to care, he only wanted to go home and pretend that nothing ever happened between them.
Comments: My first fic in English. Something that was supposed to be a short little thing but has developed into something much longer and more complicated. xD

“I’m not doing it.”
“Shinya, please be reasonable!”

“Why should I?” Shinya asked, visibly annoyed. “He’s never reasonable while I’m around, and frankly, I have gotten enough of him constantly making fun of me.”
Kaoru sighed. “Onegai? Do it for me?”
“Why does it have to be him anyway?” Shinya complained. “Why can’t I come with you? Oh, yeah, scratch that. But how about Kyo, then?”

“Not coming,” the said man informed cheerfully. “I need my beauty sleep.”
“Gee, Kyo-kun, aren’t you ever going to get bored with sleeping?” Shinya pouted.
“Never.” Kyo smiled. “And speaking of which… gotta go. Later, guys!” With a wave of his hand and a bang of the door, the tiny vocalist of Dir en grey left the room, leaving behind a grumpy Shinya, pensive Kaoru and obviously amused Die.

“Just great,” the drummer muttered and threw a disgusted look over the red headed guitarist who was looking at him with a grin on his face.
“Looks like you have to go with Die,” Kaoru said, smiling slightly.
“It’ll be fun, Shin-chan,” Die exclaimed and poked Shinya’s shoulder.
“Don’t you “Shin-chan” me,” the younger man said sharply and shoved his hand away.

“Ne, Shinya, are you still mad at me?” Die asked.
“Yes!” The drummer snorted. “You’re such an immature jerk, Daisuke.”
“You’re hurting me with your words,” the guitarist hung his head with a hurtful expression on his handsome features.
“Be grateful that the words are the only thing I’m hurting you with.” An innocent little smile played on Shinya’s lips.
Die pouted.

Amused, Kaoru chuckled. “As much as I enjoy listening to these little verbal battles of the pair of you, I really need to get going, Totchi’s already in the car waiting for me. So, can I count you guys in?”
“I promise to be a real gentleman,” the red head persuaded, smiling.
“As if,” Shinya muttered, before sighing and nodding slightly. “Fine, what ever.”
“It’s settled, then,” Kaoru smiled and turned around. “I’ll be off now and just leave you love birds alone.” With a grin, he waved his hand and disappeared from the door. Shinya made a face and turned back to Die.

“I knew you would come to your senses,” Die exclaimed and slipped his hands around the smaller man’s waist.
“Oh please,” Shinya rolled his eyes before removing his hands from around his waist. “I coming there with you does not mean that you have the right to snatch me into your arms when ever you feel like it.” Irritation was clear in his voice now.
“But we’ll be sharing a room,” Die reminded him, smiling widely and sounding rather enthusiastic about the fact.
“Don’t remind me,” Shinya shuddered visibly. “I hardly like the idea as it is.”

Die gave him a questioning look. “My little Shin-chan does not like me?” he eyed the smaller man.
“I only say this once, so listen carefully,” the drummer stated firmly. “I am neither yours nor little, so please stop acting like you have me, ‘cause you don’t.”
“But I have time to change that, don’t I?” Die’s tone was more serious now, more earnest.
Shinya’s gaze landed down to his shoes. Once again he felt awkward around the red headed guitarist.

“We’ll see”, he finally broke the silence between the two of them, not wanting to see the look on Die’s face. He knew that the other would be smiling, congratulating himself for a victory. The drummer couldn’t say what it was that annoyed him so much about Die, apart from his constant teasing, of course, neither what was the reason he felt himself blushing under his eyes, but he didn’t care. He did not want to care, he only wanted to go home and pretend that nothing ever happened between them. Shinya sighed and felt Die’s hand lift his face.

”Why so silent?” the older man teased, but Shinya could see the concern in his eyes. Maybe this one time he could forgive him. Just this once. The drummer sighed again.
“It’s nothing, Die-kun, I was just thinking...”
Die nodded and smiled. “So, I’ll come to pick you up around noon, okay?”
“Sure.”

“Great, it’s a date, then,” the guitarist grinned.
“Baka,” Shinya snorted, half smiling.
“Love you too,” Die stated cheerfully, causing the younger man to smack his chest lightly. Die just laughed.
“Shin-chan is so kawaii when he is angry.”
“And Die-kun’s just annoying.” The other couldn’t help but smile a little.

“What ever you say,” the guitarist teased and managed to avoid another smack. “Let’s go, I’ll give you a lift, it’s getting late.”
“You really don’t need to, Die-kun, I can walk,” Shinya protested.
“I insist”, Die demanded. “A pretty little creature such as yourself just cannot wander alone in the night, you know, it’s not safe.”

“Oh, get over it,” Shinya groaned, half amused, half annoyed. “I am a big boy; I can take care of myself.”
“No, I can’t let you,” the red head stated firmly. “You’ll come with me even if I have to carry you to the car myself.”
”You wouldn’t.”
“Wanna try me?”
“Daisuke!”

“Suit yourself,” the said man grinned, lifted the drummer’s lithe body easily up in his arms and left the studio, shutting the door carefully behind them.
“Put me down, Die-kun”, Shinya breathed, too amazed to struggle. He couldn’t believe that the guitarist had really done it. Well, actually, he did believe it, it really was something he would do. So Shinya just pouted and stayed silent all the way down the stairs and to Die’s car, earning an amused laughter from the older man.

“Okay, you had your fun; will you now put me down, baka?” Shinya asked when they reached Die’s car.
“I just might,” Die teased, “if you kiss me.”
“I’m going to pretend you didn’t say anything,” the drummer said all too calmly. Die laughed again and finally obeyed, letting the smaller man to stand on his own feet. Shinya tossed his long blond hair away from his face and glared at the guitarist.
“Dare to do that again and you’ll be very sorry,” he said casually.
“Sorry, but you failed to impress me with that,” Die grinned, gesturing Shinya to step in the car.

The younger man obeyed, grunting, but decided to stay silent. He sat down and looked at his hands that were resting neatly on his lap, trembling slightly. Shinya refused to look at the guitarist, pretending to be deep in his thoughts. Surprisingly, Die let him do as he pleased, concentrating purely on his driving and humming softly while he did so. Shinya found himself being grateful for that, as he really needed to think things over.

So, he was really going to the party and with Die of all the people. He wasn’t exactly fond of the idea, but Kaoru had insisted on them to go with him and Toshiya. Shinya sighed. Thinking about Kaoru and Toshiya made him feel a bit lonely. The two of them had just recently discovered their love towards each other, and the rest of the band had to suffer from continuous signs of affection their leader-sama and the bassist shared during the breaks as well as before and after the rehearsals. Not that they mind, really, but Shinya had to admit that it was kind of hard to watch the pair making out in front of the rest of them. It was like a punch on the face, a constant reminder of what he didn’t have and never would have.

Shinya sighed again and closed his eyes, leaning back. He felt Die’s eyes on him, but didn’t bother to open his own eyes to meet the red head’s glance.

“Everything okay, Shin-chan?” Die asked. Shinya nodded, eyes still shut, and felt Die’s hand resting on his thigh. Strangely enough, he didn’t really mind the gesture but continued to dwell on his mind. He did register it, though, but decided not to make a fuss over it. For Die it was probably a mere gesture of comfort, something that friends shared, he should not think anything more about it. So the drummer just sat there, silently, in deep thought.

“We’re here,” Die announced soon. Shinya opened his eyes and blinked when he saw that they really were in front of his house. The drive had been faster than usually, the drummer thought. Or perhaps he just had been too deep in his thoughts to notice the familiar streets they had been passing by.
“Oh.” Shinya blinked again, noticing that the older man kept looking at him curiously. “Anou… Is there something wrong, Die-kun?” he asked hesitantly.

The red head shook his head. “Iie. I just… I guess I’m just tired,” he ended with a half-faked yawn.
“Oh. Well, I suppose I’ll go, then. Arigatou, Die-kun.” Shinya gave the older man a small smile before stepping out of the car and shutting the door behind him. He started to walk towards the house, resisting the urge to turn back and glance at the guitarist. Had he done it, he would have seen the look in Die’s eyes. Now he simply opened the door and stepped in to the house with a sigh, taking the stairs to his apartment and leaving Die sitting in his car, who was sharing the thoughts and carefully hidden secret expectations about the party that had crossed Shinya’s mind as well.

Sitting in the sofa and petting his Chihuahua Miyu who rested comfortably in his lap, Shinya yawned and glanced at the clock. It was already past midnight; what a perfect timing for the movie he had been watching to end and thus remind him of the party he had been made to attempt.

The drummer frowned, remembering that he had forgot to pack for the little trip. Not that he’d need much, only some clothes and stuff like that, so he figured he had the time to take care of it in the morning before Die would come to pick him up. Besides, the red headed guitarist would probably be late anyways; it wasn’t like him to be precise with the time, and he had said he’d come ‘around noon’, not some accurate time like 12 pm.

Shinya smiled to himself and decided that it was time for him to go to sleep. He got up, holding Miyu in his arms, ready to make his way to his bedroom.

Suddenly, his phone began to ring. Shinya frowned and placed his precious dog on the floor, turning to the phone and wondering about the identity of the person who had decided to call him at that hour.

“Moshi moshi?”
“It’s me, Die,” a familiar voice said. Shinya blinked in surprise.
“You do know what the time is, Die-kun?” he asked, suppressing a yawn.
“Hai,” came the reply. “But I realized I forgot to tell you something about the party earlier.”
“Well, do go on, then.” The drummer felt the curiosity take over his tiredness.
“I want you to do something for me,” Die said.
“Like what?” Shinya raised an eyebrow though he knew that the other wasn’t able to see it.

“Forget about the band and the fact that you’re Dir en grey’s drummer. I want you to be my beautiful Shin-chan and I want you to have fun with me. Can you do that?”
Shinya blinked again. “What is it that you’re saying exactly, Die-kun?”
“I’m saying that I simply want to be with you and make you to have fun with me. You haven’t been yourself lately, Shin-chan, and I’ve been worrying about you. Will you let me do that, will you let me make you forget what ever it is that’s bugging you for one night?” Die sounded as if he was begging, Shinya realized and felt himself blushing.

“Anou… I…” he started hesitantly.
“Pretty please?”
“I guess I can try,” the drummer finally sighed.
“Great,” the guitarist exclaimed, his tone being happier now. “I promise it’ll be a night you won’t forget,” he said and Shinya was able to imagine the grin on his face.
“Calm down, Die-kun,” the blonde smiled slightly. “And do tell me what this desire of yours to make me have fun with you is. Usually you just tease me and that’s all, why the sudden change in behaviour?”

“It’s because I care for you,” the guitarist said softly. “Please don’t tell me you never knew it, Shin-chan, it would be too cruel even of you.”
“Baka,” Shinya muttered but smiled anyhow. “No, I wouldn’t say such a thing as I know you are my friend and friends care for each other. It’s just that sometimes you have a strange way of showing it, you know.”
“I should know,” Die admitted playfully. “But that’s why you like me so much”, he continued, with a teasing tone.

“You wish.” Shinya snorted.
“Aw, but you know it’s true, Shin-chan, there’s no use hiding it.”
“Yeah right…”
“You admitted it!”
“I did not!”
“Oh, but you did, Shin-chan. And you know I’ll win this little argument of ours, so why don’t you just give in to me?”

“Like I’d ever do that,” Shinya muttered under his breath.
“I know you would,” Die said, a hint of seriousness in his voice that made Shinya feel a little uneasy.
“You’re teasing me again,” the drummer accused with a pout.
“Maybe a little,” the guitarist acknowledged. “But I care for you, I honestly do. And you know that, don’t you?”
“Hai.” Shinya yawned. “I care for you too, but it’s really getting late and I think we both need a decent night sleep, if we’re going to be able to have fun at the party.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right. So, we’ll be seeing each other around noon, then,” the guitarist informed.
“I’ll be ready,” the blonde assured.
“And remember to wear something nice for the party.” There was amusement in Die’s voice, and Shinya sneered.
“Have I ever let you down with the way I dress, Die-kun?”
“Never. Actually, it never ceases to amaze me how beautiful you look what ever you’re wearing.”

“Die-kun…”
”I’m being serious here, Shin-chan!”
“Why is it that I don’t believe you…?” Shinya rolled his eyes.
“Mou, you’re too mean to poor old Die-kun”, Die whined.
“Oh, poor old Die-kun just has to get used to it, doesn’t he?”
“Too mean,” Die repeated and Shinya suppressed a giggle. It was his turn to tease the red head now, and he did enjoy every second of it, and not only because of the rareness of the situation.

“It’s not like you to say such things anyways,” the guitarist continued.
“Well, maybe it’s time for us to change our roles, then?” the drummer suggested with a grin.
“No, no, no, Shin-chan, I’m perfectly happy with the situation as it is,” Die promptly convinced. “My Shin-chan is too sweet to tease people.”

“Not yours, Die-kun, remember?”
“Well, the situation may change soon,” Die hinted.
“What ever you mean with that?” Shinya blinked, feeling rather confused. Sometimes he just couldn’t understand the older man.
“Not telling you just yet.”
“Die-kun…”
“Iie, you need to go to sleep, you said it yourself. Kiss Miyu good night for me, will you? Oyasumi, Shin-chan.”

And with that, Die hung up, leaving Shinya to stare at his phone, frowning and feeling somewhat strange about the phone call. Was Die really being serious with his words as he claimed to be, Shinya did not know. He only knew that he was tired and would not be able to get anything out of those words anyways, so he figured he could as well go to sleep, like he was about to do when the ringing of the phone had interrupted him earlier.

“Come on, Miyu-chan, let’s go to sleep.” Shinya smiled at the little Chihuahua who was currently yapping happily and jumping around him. He picked the little dog up into his arms and kissed the top of her head, slowly making his way to his bedroom and placing his precious dog on his bed. There was no way he would make Miyu sleep in her basket this night, as he knew he could not take her with him to the party. And he had to share a room with Die for the following night, too, so he needed to gather all the peace of mind he could find to be able to act normally around the older man.

Shinya sighed. For how long he had they been like this? He did not know. He only knew that there was something going on under the surface, something that made both him and Die act differently around each other. Surely, the red head did tease him as he used to, but something was different now and that made him feel a bit uneasy. Die made him feel a bit uneasy.

Shinya buried his face in his hands. He had feelings for the guitarist, he admitted it. But he had been hiding them well, wasn’t he? He had to believe he had, otherwise he would go crazy. If Die ever knew about his feelings… The drummer shivered. He was not ready to face that kind of situation, no matter how he secretly wished that the red head would share his feelings.

The drummer sighed again. He didn’t want to go the party, not with Die and not when he was feeling like he was. But he knew he had to. Because his leader-sama wanted him to go. Shinya wondered why. Kaoru’s reasons had been that with already one band member not going it would only be polite for the rest of them to go. But the drummer knew there had to be something more than that in it; otherwise Kaoru wouldn’t let Kyo keep his decision. No, there had to be something going on, and he was certain that Die knew about it. Shinya frowned. He had a feeling that the red head was up to something, and it wouldn’t surprise him if Kaoru, being his best friend, was with him in what ever it was. Maybe these two things were somehow connected to each other?

Shinya yawned and decided to forget all about the party and Die’s behaviour for now. It would only make him feel more confused with everything than he already was anyways. He crawled in between the sheets and felt Miyu snuggling close to him. The drummer smiled tiredly and closed his eyes, slowly starting to drift off to sleep.
