Summary: Has it always been like that, Shinya wonders as he stares out of the window.
Comments: It's been a longer while again. >.< Sorry. Anyhow, this is the prologue of My Fall Will Be For You that tells about Die and Shinya's relationship and what will happen to them. (I have already written two parts of this one-shot series and they can be found in my writing journal
daishimel.)
Constructive criticism is always welcome since English isn't my first language. Any kinds of comments are welcome, really.
Has it always been like that, Shinya wonders as he stares out of the window. There are a lot of busy people there, men with suits and briefcases, minding their own business, some of them talking to their cell phones as they walk; pretty ladies with knee-length skirts and high heels – Shinya can distantly hear the clicking that is characteristic to those women as they walk on – some of them are smiling as some of them seem to just want to get back home; and finally, those young men and women with brightly coloured hair and different outfits, a smile on their faces as they slowly make their way to meet their friends, maybe their lovers, and all of them seem to be so happy as the late evening sun shines on their faces.
Shinya looks at them and smiles a little smile that is almost a sad one; it is the season once again. The warmth and the sun, even the gentle spring rain that has some time ago stopped falling, they all are part of the reason why things are as they are, and he would not change it even if he could. The slightly melancholy feeling is so natural to him, coming to greet him every year at the same time; it is him, and in his mind he has grown so used to it he would probably miss it, as obscure as it may sound like. It does not stop him from sighing a little as he absently stares at the scene before him though, and for a moment there is something in the air that makes it harder for him to breathe.
When there is a knock on the door Shinya blinks, not expecting anyone but he leaves his place in front of the window nonetheless, making his way to the door and opening it with a question in his eyes that is soon answered with the first glimpse of red hair, and Shinya smiles as he gestures Die to step in. The words are unnecessary as they walk in together, unconsciously making their way to the window, Die’s arms coming to rest on Shinya’s waist and it is only so natural to them, to their relationship, to be this close to each other and neither of them feels the slightest bit uncomfortable with what happens every time.
Silence stretches out between the two of them but neither of them minds for it is not an awkward silence; it never is with Die and Shinya.
After a while Die shifts a little and touches his hand lightly, thumb moving over his knuckles, and soon he laces their fingers together. "I have something I need to tell you Shinya. Later," he says, his voice soft, and gently squeezes Shinya's fingers. Shinya squeezes back, leaning closer to Die's body.
"Later," he repeats quietly, and the two of them continue to look out of the window where the last rays of the setting sun reflect from the pools of water; and Shinya can breathe again.
