The weather seemed to be made for a day like this. It was windy, with a hint of rain that could be sensed in the cool night air if one didn’t have anything better to do. But the person who could otherwise have paid attention to something like that did, though.
The young lady stood there alone, leaning slightly against the railing. Long brown curls framed her face and blew about her, but she hardly noticed it, her eyes remaining fixed to the scene before her. The black sail of the ship that was anchored near the shore was hardly visible through the darkness that was already falling, but she could still see it in her eyes so clearly. The pirates had finally come, and even though she should have been prepared, she wasn’t; she never really had had the time to plan her actions should she find herself in a situation like this, but oddly enough, it wasn’t fear she was feeling now. She felt nervous, yes, but that was only because her father and brothers were somewhere out there fighting the pirates. She knew they had no chance of winning though; the attack had come as a complete surprise to them all. All she could hope for was her family to survive the night, even if they would lose their jewelry to the pirates.
She shivered slightly as the wind blew but continued to stare before her, realizing that she should have been inside helping her mother to hide the most valuable items they owned, but she couldn’t make herself to leave the place. It wasn’t until she heard footsteps behind her that she managed to tear her eyes from the scene and turn to face whoever had come to her.
Her eyes widened slightly as she saw the man standing in front of her. Dark brown hair framed his face, falling down on his shoulders, and his eyes were sparkling in the light of the moon. She blinked, recognizing him from the beard he was stroking. The man was Captain Kaoru; the most feared pirate that ever sailed the seas, famous for kidnapping young wealthy virgins for ransom and, as rumour went, for satisfying his needs.
They stared at each other for a long moment before the silence was broken.
“Aren’t you going to try and run away?” the pirate smirked.
“What good would it do?” the lady answered, her expression nonchalant, though her voice was shaking ever-so-slightly.
“Absolutely nothing,” the man smirked again. He stepped closer to her and she swallowed, braving herself for what was about to come, when-
Kaoru burst out laughing.
“You’re so not taking this seriously,” Toshiya said calmly, poking him in the ribs.
“Nope, I’m not,” Kaoru admitted, “I’m sorry, I just can’t do this with a straight face.”
Toshiya chuckled and patted Kaoru’s head. “Can’t blame you for that,” he grinned slightly.
“Tell me once again why we agreed to this in the first place.”
Shrugging, Toshiya said, “Because we thought this would be a nice little change for what we usually get to do.”
“That was before we got the script,” Kaoru pointed out. “Who writes these lines? He has clearly had an overdose of cheesy romance novels!”
“Yes, it’s full of clichés, and it’s cheesy and everything,” Toshiya nodded. “But it’s not supposed to be taken seriously; it’s supposed to be fun! Otherwise they would have asked for real actors to play the roles. I heard that they asked Yoshiki too; he’s promised to be the governor.”
“It doesn’t matter - why did it have to be us?” Kaoru insisted.
“Because Shinya said he had gotten enough of playing the parts of a woman. I suggested that Die could have been the one to wear a dress but he just looked at me like I was crazy or something. I can’t see why though; he would’ve made a cute woman and Shinya would have been the perfect pirate,” Toshiya laughed. “But we aren’t bad either.”
“True,” Kaoru admitted. “Well, at least, I’m not the one who needs to wear a dress and pretend to be a woman,” he then grinned.
Toshiya stuck out his tongue playfully. “I don’t mind it; it’s kind of nice to be wearing these kinds of clothes again. Though, I have to admit, it felt weird when I tried these on the first time.”
“You look good though,” Kaoru smiled at his lover. “I then again don’t, these clothes make me look ridiculous,” he added.
“If you want to quit, I can always ask Kyo to take your role,” Toshiya said lightly, a small smile playing on his lips.
Kaoru narrowed his eyes. “No way. It would look so weird if the lady were twice as tall as the pirate. And I won’t let anyone else kiss you either, remember that.”
“Possessive, aren’t we?” Toshiya teased.
“Are you saying I don’t have the right to be?”
“Mm, I guess not. But there is another solution as well.”
”Which is?” Kaoru asked curiously.
“I could be the pirate and you the lady,” Toshiya grinned. “That way the pirate wouldn’t be the shorter one.”
Kaoru rolled his eyes. “Yeah right, Toshiya, yeah right.”
“You can’t say that I’m not right though,” the bassist laughed.
“Well, you would be a hot pirate, that I have to admit,” Kaoru nodded. “I remember that one photoshoot when you looked like a pirate …and that one make up artist who was all over you…”
Toshiya smiled slightly at the memory. “Yeah, she was actually kind of cute…”
Kaoru rolled his eyes again. “Let’s just concentrate on this, shall we?”
Toshiya laughed a little and nodded. “Whatever you say. It’s the first kissing scene next anyway.”
“I know,” Kaoru grinned. “Let’s get to work then; I want to get at least some fun out of this before we stop.”
“Don’t we all,” was all Toshiya had time to say before Kaoru decided that he didn’t want to wait any longer after all.
