Synopsis: Everything is not always what it seems to be.
Comments: Day 5. This fic is written because of the conversations I and
koocha have been having about a seme Shinya who secretly rules the whole band, so therefore this is dedicated to her. ^-^ It wasn't supposed to end like this, though *frowns* but I can't seem to catch the idea I had for the ending so this will have to do.
Die has always found the art of leading Dir en grey very fascinating. He likes to observe the other members when ever one of those events takes place. Kaoru is so good at it, all he has to do is to adopt the leader-sama attitude that only he, out of the five of them, possesses. The subtle way he takes over his role and makes it all seem so simple never ceases to amaze Die. A natural talent, that’s what it is all about, he usually thinks. Now however he has come to notice that everything is not always what it seems like.
Standing somewhere in the corner of the studio, unnoticed by the other members, Die watches the scene before him. Everything is almost like it always is when they’re having a break. Toshiya sits there, playing with his cell phone and letting the sleepy Kyo use himself as a pillow, not without trying his best to disturb the annoyed vocalist though but the bicker between the two roommates is something they all have grown to think of nothing but normal. After all, the duo is close to each other and shares an understanding, just like Die and Kaoru do.
Die grins a little for the scene and turns his attention to Shinya who is no doubt enjoying the well earned break along with the fact that Die is not bothering him like he usually does. The guitarist guesses that the drummer wonders what it is that has caused the rather unnatural state of affairs but being the silent one he always is he does not voice his thoughts. If he even has them, of course. Die still, after all this time, can’t really tell. Shinya still remains a mystery to him, a puzzle he would gladly solve, but the drummer never gives him a chance to do so. Anyhow Die knows that he’ll never stop trying, never give up with the man he secretly desires, and loves, even.
Reluctantly the guitarist glances at Kaoru who is currently sitting in front of the table, staring at the paper in front of him, deep in thought. Die knows that their leader is thinking about their newest song, the composition he showed them only a couple of hours before. There is something wrong with it, something he can’t quite get a grasp of, and by the look of it he starts to get frustrated. For a moment Die considers offering his help but someone beats him to it. Shinya gets up from behind his drums and walks to Kaoru, bending near the table as well and saying something softly to his ear. Die notices the way their leader’s brow furrows as he checks the paper in front of him and then nods. Shinya gives him a small smile and returns to his earlier position behind the drums. Kaoru writes something down on the paper then calls the practice together once more, and this time the song is perfect.
The next time Die has time to concentrate on his observance is when they are having a dinner together. Die notices once again how Shinya is the one who every once in a while turns to Kaoru and whispers something in his ear that always leads to some kind of announcement, whether it concerns the band or just one of the members. The guitarist notices it but suspects that he is the only one. The others, they just don’t seem to care all that much and sometimes Die silently wonders if he is just obsessed with all that involves Shinya.
And maybe that is the point, Die muses as he follows the drummer out of the restaurant and watches how the others just seem to disappear – one minute they are all there, chatting about nothing and everything, and the next minute there are only he and Shinya left. The guitarist takes a deep breath, allowing the cool night air to fill his lungs, and turns to his band mate, asking him if he needs a ride. Shinya glances at him with an unreadable expression on his face but accepts the offer nonetheless. A bit amazed, Die leads Shinya to the car and opens the door for him.
The ride is quiet but the silence is a pleasant one, and Die smiles a little to himself, from time to time glancing at Shinya out of the corner of his eyes. When they reach Shinya’s apartment the guitarist parks the car and turns to Shinya, staring deep into his eyes. Shinya does not seem to mind; as a matter a fact, he gives him a small smile and asks if he wants to join him for a cup of tea. Blinking, Die accepts the invitation and follows Shinya to his apartment.
After greeting Miyu, Die observing the drummer as he holds the tiny dog in his arms and smiles softly at her, Shinya sets her down again and walks to the kitchen, Die on his heels. The guitarist offers his help but Shinya gently declines, telling Die to sit down and make himself comfortable. Die nods and when Miyu comes to sniff at his feet he picks her up and pets her until Shinya places a steaming mug of hot tea in front of him.
Even when their mugs are empty neither of them seems to want to move and spoil the atmosphere. Die has no idea how long they sit there and talk about all the little things that matter but he really does not care either. It is only when he realizes that the dimness of the room has starting to turn into deep darkness that he reluctantly gets up and apologises to Shinya for keeping him awake for so long. Shinya shakes his head lightly and smiles at him, telling him that the apologies are unnecessary.
It all happens so quickly - Die has really no idea how and when and why, but suddenly he finds Shinya in his arms, the drummer’s lips against his and they stumble to the bedroom, Die falling down on the bed with Shinya on top of him. They kiss again, touching each other, and distantly Die wonders if it all is really happening, if the reality is the feeling of Shinya’s naked body against his own.
When he feels Shinya moving inside of him he decides that yes is the answer he’s been looking for, though.
