Comments: I think that this chapter was the hardest one to write, and that's why it took me so long. But after I got started it was easier, though I still think that this is not a very good chapter. Anyhow it had to be written and now I can concentrate on what happens next, and after the party... *shiny* Oh yeah, and we have two new characters in this part as well. *laughs*
When Shinya entered the great hall along with Die he really didn’t know what to expect. Sure, he had figured that there would be plenty of other bands’ members there but it had never occurred to him that the press would be there as well, along with some important people of Japan. So when Die opened the door for him and led him in he was totally unprepared for the crowd that filled the room, the dimness making it hard for him to really realize the size of the room and the noise that filled the air, the music and the chattering of the people, it all made him stop at his tracks and just stare at the sight before him. Maybe he should have paid more attention to what Kaoru had told them about the party…
Suddenly Shinya’s thoughts were interrupted by Die when the guitarist gently poked him to his side. Shinya snapped away from his daze and turned his attention to the redheaded man next to him.
“Ne, Die-kun, did you have something to say?” he inquired, not really comfortable with being stared at so closely.
“As a matter a fact I did. Are you ok? You kind of froze right there, did you notice that?” Die explained, still examining him closely.
“I’m fine, I just wasn’t prepared for all this,” Shinya answered, gesturing towards the full room.
“Yeah, pretty many people are here tonight,” the guitarist admitted. “To tell you the truth, I never expected this party to be this crowded. If we somehow manage to find Kao-kun and Totchi from there it’ll be a miracle.”
Shinya nodded, nervously shifting his weight from other foot to another. He didn’t feel like leaving the somewhat peaceful place they had found near the corner of the room, he wasn’t comfortable with large crowds. Without noticing it, the drummer moved closer to Die who smiled and let his arm find its place around Shinya’s waist.
“I don’t want to lose you to the crowd,” Die explained cheerfully when Shinya glanced at him a bit questioningly. The drummer nodded again and stepped even closer to the other man, placing his own arm around him as well.
“What now? You are the one who wanted me here so it’s your duty to entertain me,” Shinya said with a small smile. He wasn’t really sure why but he felt strangely good around the guitarist now, the awkward feeling he had feared to make things uneasy for them wasn’t there at all. Maybe it was the fact that Die was his friend and the only person Shinya knew at the moment and besides, he didn’t like being around complete strangers so Die was his only companion now. Either way the drummer didn’t really care. He found himself staring expectantly at the guitarist, waiting him to tell him what to do next.
“We should probably try to find Yoshiki-san first, it’d be only polite to greet him as he was the one who invited us here in the first place,” Die answered thoughtfully. “Then we could either try to find Kao-kun and Totchi or find a way to entertain ourselves.”
“Sounds good to me,” Shinya nodded. “Lead the way then.”
Die smiled widely and tightened his hold on Shinya’s waist, pulling him closer to himself. He then led the drummer straight towards the crowd, making his way to the stage that was located to the other side of the room. Shinya followed him silently; trying his best not to bump into other guests on their way and keeping as close Die as possible, not wanting to get separated from the guitarist. He had no desire to get lost in the crowd or wander around the room by himself. And Die seemed to find his way to the other side pretty well, all he had to do was follow the other.
Soon they were close to the stage. Without letting go of Shinya Die glanced around them and soon spotted their producer standing in a small group of people right in front of the stage.
“There he is,” Die pointed out to Shinya. “Shall we go?” he asked and led the younger man straight to Yoshiki.
“Die-san, Shinya-san, how nice of you to make it,” Yoshiki greeted them as they approached the older man.
“Thank you for inviting us,” Die replied politely as they stopped in front of him.
Shinya paid little attention to the other people around them who were engaged in a conversation with each other. He only concentrated on Die who was now changing compliments with Yoshiki so he never noticed a certain blond man who was examining him closely.
“I met Kaoru-san and Toshiya-san just a while ago; they told me about Kyo-san offering to look after your little dog, Shinya-san, which was the reason why he’s not here now I heard. But I know you knew this already,” Yoshiki was saying. “And they said that they’ll be somewhere near the bar most of the time if you two want to find them,” he then added and smiled warmly at Shinya who was now practically in Die’s arms, trying to avoid being bumped at. Shinya blushed a little at the way their producer was smiling and looking at them but nodded nevertheless.
“Thank you for the information, Yoshiki-san, I think we’ll go and search for them right now,” Die said and bowed at the older man. Shinya followed his example and let the guitarist lead him away from Yoshiki. They made their way to the bar in a comfortable silence, listening to the music that was playing on the background and both searching for their band mates. This time it was Shinya who spotted the other two so he nudged Die on his arm and pointed them out to him too.
When they got to the other two they noticed that their leader and bassist were wrapped in a tight embrace. Die chuckled at the sight and coughed a little to get their attention. When it didn’t make any difference he simply patted Kaoru on the shoulder and held Shinya close to himself as they watched Kaoru and Toshiya focusing their attention towards their surroundings instead of each other.
“You’re finally here,” Toshiya exclaimed loudly when he noticed Die and Shinya standing in front of them.
“And it took you guys some time to notice,” Die answered playfully.
“Yeah well, we were a bit preoccupied, right Kao-kun?” Toshiya smiled at his koibito and placed his head on Kaoru’s shoulder.
“Speaking of which… Do we finally have another couple in the band?” Kaoru inquired, clearly amused, and gestured towards the way Die’s hands were possessively around Shinya’s waist.
“Iie, we just didn’t want to get separated in the crowd,” Shinya explained firmly. “You can let go now, Die-kun,” he added, turning to face Die.
“I can but I won’t,” the guitarist grinned and pulled Shinya closer to himself. The drummer sighed but didn’t bother saying anything as he knew it would only encourage the other further. Instead he turned his focus back on the other two who were currently having identical knowing smiles on their faces.
“Shinya!” Toshiya suddenly exclaimed. “You look absolutely breathtaking,” he smiled approvingly as though he had only then noticed Shinya’s appearance. “I’ve always loved that dress,” he added.
“Arigatou,” Shinya smiled at the bassist. “You look great yourself as well, blue really suits you.”
“You know, Totchi, it took him an hour to get ready,” Die interfered, smiling teasingly at the drummer whose cheeks were turning slightly pink. “He’s almost as bad as the women.”
“Am not,” Shinya defended himself.
“Oh yes you are,” the guitarist grinned. “It took me like ten minutes to get changed, compared to that you are a little slow so to say.”
“It was only because of my hair and make up,” Shinya explained.
“Have you by the way already met Yoshiki-san?” Kaoru asked, interrupting their little conversation.
Shinya nodded, trying his best not to take any notice of Die who had already placed his chin on his shoulder. “He actually told us how to find you two; otherwise I don’t think we’d be able to do it. It’s pretty crowded here,” the drummer pointed out and Kaoru nodded as well.
“Well, it was expected as this is a big night for Yoshiki-san,” he explained.
“Care to tell us the program, Kao-kun?” Die cut in. “I bet Yoshiki-san has planned all sorts of things for tonight.”
“You’re right. If I remember correctly there will be some band playing later on and of course some other activities as well.”
“You don’t happen to remember the name of the band, do you?” Toshiya inquired an interested look on his face.
Kaoru shook his head. “I think it’s one of Yoshiki-san’s discoveries,” he said. “We’ll know when we see them.”
Shinya had been observing Kaoru and Toshiya during their conversation. He had noticed how they were close to each other, Toshiya leaning on Kaoru while their leader had his arm around the bassist’s waist. They seemed so happy together, those little gestures and smiles they exchanged every now and then told him that. It was clear to him that they were deeply in love, and for a moment the drummer wished for someone to be as close to as they were.
“Ne, Shin-chan?” Die’s voice invaded Shinya’s thoughts and made him blink.
“Nani?”
“Why so silent?” Die teased him. “Hopefully not feeling bored already.”
“Iie, I was just thinking,” Shinya assured.
“You sure do that a lot,” the redhead said.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Shinya lifted his eyebrow curiously.
“Nothing. Just live a little, my little Shin-chan,” Die smiled at him.
Shinya would have answered to the other if there hadn’t been the silence that filled the room when the music suddenly stopped. People started to move towards the stage and Shinya turned his attention there as well, finding Yoshiki standing on the stage, ready to officially start the party. The four members of Dir en grey turned to see him, Toshiya leaning on his lover’s chest and Shinya on Die’s, listening to the older man to welcome them all to the party.
~
When Yoshiki had finished his little speech there had indeed been a band playing. Their producer had seemed pretty enthusiastic when introducing them but Shinya couldn’t really remember the name of the band no matter how hard he tried. The whole time the band had been playing Shinya had been too aware of Die’s hands around himself to focus on the music and now he only had a vague memory of the five men being on the stage. Their music might as well have been pop or rock, the drummer hadn’t really paid any attention to listening to it. Instead he had been thinking about him and Die. He also couldn’t but notice how Kaoru and Toshiya were standing next to them, the guitarist’s hands around the bassist’s waist and the latter contently leaning on his lover. Their position was so similar to him and Die’s that Shinya could only wonder if the people around them considered them as two couples.
What if someone had taken a photo of them and it would be in the newspaper the next day? If it happened, they could say that it was just a fanservice or something like that. But it would still create gossips of them, and that wouldn’t be a good thing now would it. Shinya sighed. They hadn’t been telling their fans about Kaoru and Toshiya being together and their leader wasn’t planning on telling it in the near future, or so he had been told. Had Kaoru been thinking about that when he decided that they’d participate in the party? Shinya suspected that he hadn’t really been giving it a thought. But then again, it wasn’t like they were kissing each other, well at the moment anyways, and besides there were so many people there that the press would find more interesting bands to bother. So they should be pretty safe, and no one else of them seemed to care for these things so why should he? Shinya decided to forget about his thoughts and concentrate more on having fun like he had promised to Die.
Shinya turned his attention back to his band mates who were happily discussing about the band they had just been listening to. Shinya smiled to himself but decided not to participate in it since he didn’t really know anything about the band and thus would have nothing to say.
“What did you think about them, Shin-kun?” Toshiya suddenly asked and Shinya found himself in the centre of his band mates’ attention. Mentally cursing himself the drummer gave a small smile.
“Anou… I think they were okay,” he shrugged nonchalantly.
“Their singer’s voice sounded a bit familiar, right Shin-chan?” Die then said.
“If you say so,” Shinya decided to answer.
“My, someone’s being a bit out of it, ne”, Die smiled teasingly. “I bet our precious little Shin-chan didn’t even listen to them but was dreaming instead!”
Shinya couldn’t help to blush.
“So I was right,” Die grinned wickedly. “Care to tell us what you were thinking about?”
“I’d rather not,” Shinya muttered.
“Aw, Shin-chan, you have to tell us,” Toshiya decided to join the game. “We’re like a family, and family members should not keep secrets from each other,” he whined and stared at Shinya accusingly with his big brown eyes, pouting a little.
“You’re making that up,” Shinya stated, not really annoyed but feeling somewhat uneasy.
“What, the part that family members should not keep secrets from each other?” Toshiya smiled sweetly. “I do hope you don’t mean that you don’t think the band as your second family,” he continued pouting some more. “Because we are!”
“Okay, fine you are. Satisfied?” Shinya asked.
“Almost,” Toshiya smiled contently. “Now you only have to tell us what you were thinking about, right Die-kun?”
“Hai,” Die answered, grinning.
“I’m not going to do that,” the drummer stated determinedly.
“Mou, Shinya~ you have to,” Toshiya whined.
“No I don’t.”
“You do.”
“I don’t.”
“Okay, children, leave Shin-kun alone,” Kaoru interfered, smiling a little. “He doesn’t have to tell us everything and yes, not even to you, Die.”
Toshiya pouted. “Fine, be that way, both of you.”
“Aw, Totchi-chan, smile a little, for me?” Kaoru took his lover back to his arms and stroked his hair, Toshiya trying his best not to smile but failing. “Good boy,” the leader praised him and Shinya and Die exchanged glances, hiding their own smiles.
“Ah, Kaoru-san, the person I wanted to see,” a voice interrupted them. Kaoru and Toshiya promptly took a couple of steps away from each other and the whole band turned around to meet Yoshiki with a certain blond man.
“Yoshiki-san,” Kaoru blinked. “Is something wrong?”
“Iie, I only wanted you to meet someone,” their producer explained. “Everyone, may I introduce you to Camui Gackt,” he then continued.
The blond man, Gackt, bowed. “Nice to meet you, Kaoru-san.”
Kaoru repeated the gesture. “Nice to meet you too, Gackt-san. This is Toshiya,” he gestured towards his lover, “and the redheaded one is Die and the blond one beside him is Shinya.”
“Nice to meet you too, Toshiya-san, Die-san, Shinya-san,” Gackt smiled.
“You too,” Toshiya smiled back and Die and Shinya nodded.
“I’ve heard so much about you from Yoshiki-kun,” Gackt told them, looking at them all but mostly concentrated his attention on Shinya who noticed it and took a step closer to Die, feeling a bit uneasy for being stared at so closely.
“Hopefully he has been telling you only about the good things,” Kaoru smiled, observing the other man.
“Trust me I have,” Yoshiki laughed and winked at Kaoru.
“He especially praised your skills as a drummer, Shinya-san,” Gackt said, smiling directly at Shinya.
“Anou, Yoshiki-san, I’m not that good,” Shinya addressed his words to Yoshiki despite the fact that he was looking at Gackt. He found himself not being able to turn his gaze away from the other man’s eyes, so deep and beautiful. It was only when Die coughed that Shinya was able to tear his gaze away from Gackt. The older man smiled and he blushed a little as he noticed that the others were all looking at the two of them with more or less amused looks on their faces.
“So Gackt-san,” Die casually began, “What else has Yoshiki-san been telling you about us?”
“Only that you are all great at what you do,” Gackt answered. “I’ve been listening to your songs myself as wel and I must admit that I really like them. Your singer has a wonderful voice.”
“Hai, he has,” Die nodded.
“He’s not here now, right?” Gackt asked.
“Right, he’s home taking care of Shin-chan’s dog,” Die explained.
“You have a dog, Shinya-san?” Gackt turned his attention back to Shinya, who nodded.
“Hai, a Chihuahua. Her name is Miyu,” he said, smiling softly at the thought of his precious little ball of fur.
“They’re kawaii little creatures, Chihuahuas,” Gackt affirmed.
“They definitely are,” Shinya smiled warmly at the other man, not feeling that uneasy anymore. He found that he actually liked Gackt, and the fact that he appreciated Chihuahuas only made him look nicer in his eyes.
“Have you been dancing at all?” Yoshiki asked suddenly. “We have some great music here and the next number is not going to start anytime soon.”
“Actually we haven’t had the time yet, but perhaps now we do, right Totchi?” Kaoru turned to look at his lover who nodded enthusiastically.
“Well then, can I have this dance?” Gackt asked Shinya. “If it’s okay with the rest of you of course,” he then continued, turning to face the others.
“If Shinya wants to dance then I can’t see any problem,” Kaoru said but the way he was looking at Die said otherwise.
“Well, Shinya-kun?” Gackt smiled sweetly at the drummer who chewed at his lower lip, thinking. It was just one dance, what harm could it do? He had noticed Kaoru looking at Die though and it made him hesitate a little. But then again, couldn’t this be a perfect way to show Die that he didn’t belong to the redhead even if they all were thinking that he would?
“Sure, I’d love to,” Shinya returned the smile, having made his decision. Gackt offered him his arm and Shinya took it, letting the older man lead him away from the others, not looking back. Besides, who knew, maybe dancing with Gackt would be the thing he needed to get his mind off of Die so that he’d finally be able to concentrate on something else as well.
