Written both for Die's birthday challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] dxs_love and for my Christmas calendar. (And yes, I know I'm horribly late because I often fail like that. >.<')

It was the day before Die’s birthday that found Die and Shinya in Die’s apartment, sitting on the sofa next to each other, both quiet and seemingly deep in thought. While Shinya was pondering over which kind of birthday present would be suitable for Die this year, Die was secretly glancing over at Shinya from the corner of his eyes, taking in those familiar and lovely features.

Shinya had always looked adorable when in thought.

The tip of Shinya’s tongue peeked out of his mouth to wet his lower lip, and Die held his breath, almost mesmerized, not being able to tear his gaze away from the other.

Though, Shinya always seemed to have that effect on him, no matter what he did.

Then Shinya turned his head to look at him and Die tried his best to act like he had not been staring.

“Die?”

“Yes?”

“I was just wondering what you would like to get for your birthday,” Shinya said.

Was this his chance perhaps, Die thought as he turned to fully face Shinya now. “Want me to be completely honest?” he asked, deciding to test the waters first.

Shinya nodded. “Yes please.”

“Well then,” Die began, taking a quick breath. “You.”

Shinya tilted his head slightly. “Me?” he repeated questioningly.

Die nodded. “Yes, you. And yes, this would be a confession of me having feelings for you.” There, he had said it, calmly and hopefully without showing any signs of those damn butterflies in his stomach that were trying their best to break free from their cage, at least by the way they were buzzing around.

Shinya was quiet for a long while.

Then, “Just to make sure, do you prefer red or black ribbon?”

Die arched an eyebrow at that, confused. “I’m… really not sure what you mean by that.”

Shinya smiled slightly. “You’ll just have to wait and see, don’t you?”

Die nodded, still bewildered. “Well, if you say so.”

“I do. And now, red or black? Or perhaps some other colour?”

“Um… Red and black?” Die offered.

Shinya nodded. “That works, too. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll have to go and get some things ready for your present. See you tomorrow.”

And with that, Shinya left, leaving Die to wonder what on Earth he had gotten himself into this time.
